Westchester Tractor-Trailer Driver Hits, Kills Man Crossing Roadway, Police Say

A 41-year-old Hudson Valley man was found dead lying on a roadway after reports of a crash.

The incident took place in Rockland Countyaround 4:20 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23, on Route 59 in Spring Valley.

According to Spring Valley Police Department Det. Matthew Galli, when officers arrived on the scene they found the victim in the roadway next to a tractor-trailer.

The man, who has not been identified pending notification of family members, was pronounced dead at the scene by Rockland Paramedics.

A preliminary investigation by the Spring Valley Police revealed the tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Route 59, while the pedestrian was walking south across Route 59 when the accident occurred, Gallie said

Due to the nature of the accident, the Clarkstown Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) were requested to the scene and are assisting in this investigation.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 52-year-old Westchester County resident of New Rochelle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation at this time, Woods said.
